Alma visits the Maker Faire

This weekend we got a chance to go to the Kansas City Maker Faire. The Maker Faire is essentially a celebration of Do It Yourself, showcasing things that people made themselves. The exhibits ranged from home built robots (which were quite sophisticated), to 3D printers like the RepRap and the Maker Bot, to food, clothes and even homemade music instruments. It was inspiring to see all of the cool things that people are able to make themselves. Being a fairly DIY family ourselves, we certainly identified with the vibe and the culture.

There was an exhibit, Star Base Projects, where they were making animated photographs. Basically, the subject stood still on a rotating platform and was spun in a circle. A camera that was affixed to the platform took pictures of the subject while the platform rotated. I couldn't resist, so I had a picture made with me and Alma. It turned out awesome.

Three Months Old

Alma is 3 months old!!! Our little girl is growing like crazy. It is amazing how long she is now (but still a skinny little thing). We are hoping for some baby chub any day now ; )

I wasn't sure how I would feel about girly things when we first had Alma but now it is hard not to want to dress her up since she looks so cute in almost anything. I couldn't help myself and finally broke down and bought her some bows for that non-existent hair of hers so I have to share these.

 Pretty adorable huh?

Other things.......one milestone that Matt and I are pretty happy about is that Alma is getting older and easier to take with us when we go out and about. This past week she accompanied us to eat sushi for the first time. All the Japanese ladies fawned over her and all wanted to know when she would be old enough to eat sushi.....gonna be a while ; )

Father's Day

We were really not sure how to celebrate Matt's first Father's Day with Alma. So we decided that it would be fun to introduce her to a new sensory experience - swimming with Pappa. Matt picked out the perfect first pool for Alma the night before and we all hung out in the yard while the little one got some quality Pappa-time.

Alma wasn't sure what to think at first. She loves bath time so we were pretty sure she would like it. After a few seconds she was relaxed and having fun.

We noticed that swimming has the same effect on her as bath time - she got really sleep really fast so our swim adventure didn't last very long.....

I have to say though, it was really cute to see these two hanging out by the pool together!

And afterwards, somebody took a really great nap!

Glücklicher Vatertag Pappa!

2 Months Old (well really almost 3)

We just had our 2 month doctor visit thanks to our pediatrician being out of town even though Alma is now closer to 3 months old. But we are happy to report that the little one is doing just fine. She is still on the tiny side but well within the acceptable range of development. Ms. Alma now weighs 10 lbs 3.5 oz and is 22 7/8 inches long.

We had our first round of major vaccines yesterday and despite a bit of crankiness she did great. I think I cried more when they gave her the shots than she did. Unfortunately Papa missed this milestone as he is on the beautiful island of Oahu right now hopefully landing his first professorship! We will of course keep everyone posted.

Now for some pictures to share how much Alma is changing. She is growing so fast and is more fun everyday. We are really starting to see her personality come out and she is a very sweet little girl.

Now trying to put both hands in her mouth at once.
Still working on tummy time. Even rolled over the other day!
What possible could be making this sweet baby so happy you might ask - ceiling fan! She loves it!
I love her sleepy face. Gives her away every time.
Alma and Lili are quite a pair. We try to get a walk in at least once a day  - Lili is finally getting the hang of walking with a stroller.

See what I mean about personality : )

Alma often has this very serious look on her face. I would give anything to know what she's thinking about.

I like this picture of her...probably because she looks like me when I was a baby here. Plus you can kind of see she is starting to get a dimple on her left cheek.
